Healthcare system in Chile
Hi there! In this blog I will give my point of view about the topic of the Healthcare system in Chile and how -in my opinion- this is promoted by the government. We all know that in our country we have a public system and also a private one, but there is a big difference between them. In my opinion, the private healthcare system is pretty good BUT is expensive because you have to pay for a health plan also known as Isapre (and pay even more if you don’t have Isapre), and not everyone can get into it. On the other side, the public healthcare system which is administered by the ministry of health, is quite problematic because it often has a high demand of attention for patients, and also a lot of negligence because it is saturated and that system has flaws. I had a close experience of the public healthcare system, about a great-aunt who was elderly and had different diseases. She was registered in public health, during her last days of life she was complicated by her diseases and received totally unworthy treatment since there were no beds available in the hospital, until she finally passed away lying on a makeshift gurney in a hospital corridor.
So, due to the high demand, I think the government is more focused in curing the health of the people as much as possible, that is generally bad nowadays, more than preventing the disease. Maybe it can happen because the common people during their youth do not really take care of their health, because of a lack of healthy education, or also because there is so much processed and fast food that is not healthy for your body, it can be sooo many facts. In conclusion, in my opinion, the government can do a lot more things to prevent diseases in the population but have to put special focus on healthy education for everyone, and also invest more funds in the public health system.
